Roanoke Indivisible Endorses Raekwon Moore and Danny Clawson for City Council
Real change comes from people who show up for their community first, not from politics as usual. That's why Roanoke Indivisible is proud to endorse Raekwon Moore and Danny Clawson for Roanoke City Council.
Raekwon Moore grew up in Roanoke's schools and has spent more than a decade giving back to them, mentoring young people through Roanoke Valley 4-H and the Young Doctors Project, and serving on neighborhood boards long before he was a candidate for anything. He's running to restore funding to Roanoke's public schools, make Valley Metro's bus stops safe and accessible for the people who depend on them, and protect the city's parks as essential public infrastructure. Raekwon has also been outspoken against data centers, including advocating in Botetourt County against Google’s proposed site that threatens the region's shared water supply, and he wants Roanoke to tighten its own zoning restrictions and appoint people to the Western Virginia Water Authority Board who'll put residents' water quality and water costs first.
Danny Clawson has spent years leading the Virginia Harm Reduction Coalition through the opioid crisis here in Roanoke, work that requires both compassion and serious fiscal discipline. Danny has also worked directly with Roanoke Indivisible, leading trainings that helped build our Deep Canvassing working group — an initiative aimed at winning the hearts and minds by engaging in direct conversation, at doors or on the phone, about the issues that affect us all. Danny is running on housing, education, and government transparency: making sure the decisions that shape this city aren't made behind closed doors. That includes real skepticism of Flock surveillance cameras in Roanoke: Danny supports vetting real alternatives and genuinely engaging the community, rather than expanding a system with a documented track record of security problems and abuse that violate our basic right to privacy and endanger vulnerable communities.
Both Raekwon and Danny did the work long before this campaign. Both are exactly who we want on council: people who answer to residents, not to themselves, and who won't let surveillance tech or corporate interests override the community's voice.
That's the kind of people power this city needs.
