Courtroom Observer Training

Join us to train to be a court observer at Roanoke City General District Court.

Cases are seen on weekdays from 9AM - 4PM, so ideal candidates have recurring availability to be in person at the courthouse during those hours.

Why are we doing this?

ICE arrests in courthouses are increasing in frequency across Virginia, and we expect this pattern to continue. Groups like ours across the state are organizing to monitor courtrooms and record their observations.

Courtroom observation is a completely legal, protected, and longstanding practice.

Gathering information is essential for state and national organizations to engage in advocacy on behalf of the clients detained. If agents or others in the courthouse do anything illegal, being present to witness and document what occurs can make the difference between someone being deported and released for unlawful arrest.
